Er konnte sich früh die schwachen Züge des Gegners zu Nutze machen und griff über das Zentrum an. Er setzte sein Spielgegner schließlich weit in Bedrängnis und setzte ihn mit der Dame schachmatt. Franz Maier wollte ebenso mit einem risikoreichen Angriff mit einen Doppel Turm eine bessere Stellung erzielen. Doch er verlor dadurch unglücklich eine Schwerfigur und gab das Spiel kurz danach auf. Dies war insbesondere ein Glücksfall, weil der Gegner den König mit beide Türmen in Bedrängnis setzte und weitaus besser stand. Hingegen konnte Martin mit einem Bauern, der kurz vorm Umtausch war, drohen und auch den König vor einen Matt beschützen. Es kam zu einen Remis, der schließlich Wehringen I nun nach der vorletzten Runde der A-Klasse zu Platz 3 in der Ligatabelle verhalf. Der Klassenerhalt ist nun gesichert.
